EnviroSys-based solution goes live at BMA

September 2006

The SRA team has successfully implemented its Environmental Data Repository (EDR) solution, based on EnviroSys, throughout BHP Billiton Mitsubishi Alliance (BMA) coal mines in the Queensland Bowen Basin and the Hay Point Port facility.

The EDR project, delivered on time and within budget, is the second successful implementation of EnviroSys within BHP Billiton. BHP Billiton West Australian Iron Ore operations successfully implemented the product in January 2005.

Dr. Bernie Kirsch, Superintendent Environment for BMA noted "the web-based data warehouse for BMA has resulted from strong collaboration between members of the Coal and Steelmaking Materials (CSM) Customer Sector Groups within BHPB, Coal in Queensland and Iron Ore in WA. Although you cannot get much further apart geographically speaking, this common and synergistic approach has brought us together from across the divide. We were able to benefit greatly from Mark Piggot's (Superintendent Environment BHPB WAIO) experience and leadership after he implemented the system successfully across WAIO. The great thing is that system development achieved in our BMA implementation will assist WAIO in their next upgrade. It truly has been a team effort and SRA's RDBMS developers have been integral to our success. And at the end of the day, it's all about gaining competitive advantage!".

SRA's Managing Director, Mr. Steve Rowe appreciates the value of a client like BMA. "It is exciting for the company to have our EnviroSys product help BMA manage their Environment and Hygiene data. Our EnviroSys product is the result of over three years R&D investment, plenty of innovation, and a great supportive team who shared the vision".

The EnviroSys product provides a data warehouse function for storing time series and grab sample data against which National and International standards and guidelines can be applied and reported on. Guidelines are used to identify exceedences within the data based on high and low value exception levels. Notifications via email and SMS are used to ensure the whole data life cycle is maintained.
